Dancing With the Stars Season 35 Premiere: Harry Shum Jr. Tops Scores as Conner Leavitt Is Eliminated

Dancing With the Stars kicked off Season 35 with a two-night premiere, and Night One already delivered a surprise elimination.

On Tuesday, September 15, the male celebrities took the floor first. Harry Shum Jr. and pro partner Jenna Johnson earned the highest score of the night with a 21 out of 30 for their cha-cha to Earth, Wind & Fire’s “Let’s Groove.” Paralympian Ezra Frech and Daniella Karagach followed closely with a 20 for their tango to Kelly Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone.”

At the bottom of the leaderboard, Guillermo Rodriguez scored a 10. After judges’ scores were combined with viewer votes, Conner Leavitt and Adele Zaikman were the first couple eliminated.

Other scores included Tyler Cameron (17), Connor Wood (16), Taylor Hanson (16), and Jackson Olson (15). The premiere experienced some online voting issues, so only text votes were used alongside the judges’ marks for the elimination.

Night Two featuring the female celebrities airs Wednesday, September 16, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC and Disney+.
