For a long time I thought the way to lose belly fat was to do hundreds of crunches every day. I was wrong.
Spot reduction is mostly a myth. You cannot force your body to burn fat from one specific area just by training that area.
What Actually Reduces Belly Fat
Overall fat loss through a calorie deficit, consistent movement, better sleep, and managing stress. The midsection often holds onto fat longer, so patience is required.
What I Focused On Instead
- Daily walking (8,000–10,000 steps)
- Strength training 2–3 times per week (full body)
- Protein at every meal
- Cutting liquid calories (soda, juice, fancy coffee)
- Better sleep schedule
Results
Over a few months my waist measurement dropped noticeably even though I almost never did traditional crunches. My core felt stronger from compound movements like squats, push-ups, and planks.
Practical Advice
Stop obsessing over one body part. Build habits that create a sustainable calorie deficit and improve body composition overall. The belly fat will come down as total body fat decreases.
